• What's up: You have choices when you go to Stone Mountain Park, and they're not limited to laser shows, Civil War history and 4D movies. You can find some of the best fishing in metro Atlanta at the park's 363-acre lake. Bass fishing is surprisingly good. Catfish and bream are plentiful, too.

• Need to know: Private boats are allowed during daylight hours (access boat ramp from Stonewall Jackson Drive inside the park) every day Oct. 1-April 30 and on weekdays May 1-Sept. 30, during which boat access is limited to 6-11 a.m. on weekends and holidays.

Bass fishing at Stone Mountain Park is surprisingly good. Catfish and bream are also plentiful.
 

• Fee: $8 vehicle entry to park (no fee for using boat ramp)

• Getting there: From Atlanta, take U.S. 78 (Stone Mountain Freeway) east. Exit at Stone Mountain Park exit.
