Obama’s ‘Hope’ portrait goes to U.S. gallery

An undated handout image, provided to the media on Friday shows artist Shepard Fairey’s image of U.S. President-elect Barack Obama. The 38-year-old street artist derived the image — made famous in presidential campaign posters — partly from the Eastern Orthodox Christian tradition of icon painting. It has just entered the collection of the National Portrait Gallery in Washington.
