Cancun for $100 each way? No way! Yes way on AirTran

For The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Friday, January 16, 2009

After Hurricane Wilma did her best to wipe Cancun off the map, the city picked itself back up and started the rebuild which saw the rise of a number of swanky all-inclusive resorts that only a few of us can afford. A turn to steeper prices were also the solution to finally end the steady flow of 24/7 college partyers during Spring Break and summer seasons.

If you’re bound for Cancun with the family, consider a stay at the Hotel Marina El Cid of Puerto Morelos in the Riviera Maya, about 15 minutes from the Cancun Airport.

The resort sets on a beautiful beach and is minutes from the waters of the protected Puerto Morelos National Reef Park. This is a prime spot for snorkeling and discovering the amazing underwater world.

The resort invites kids of ages 12 and under to stay free (when sharing parents room) and parents can enjoy an instant rebate to land a $129 per person, per night rate on stays through April 11 when booking trips by Jan. 19. Blackout dates include Feb. 12-19.

This is the ultimate value for a family of four to enjoy the benefits and inclusive features of a luxury resort — with all meals, drinks, activities and more for $258 a night! What’s more is that trips booked by Jan. 19 include a $300 resort credit.

Included are luxurious accommodations with a private balcony or terrace; all meals (24/7); beverages from imported to bottled water; waiter services along the pool and beach; daily pool and beach activity programs; bicycles and biking tours; use of sauna and steam room; use of water sports equipment (non-motor); use of tennis courts (racquets and balls); use of fitness center and evening entertainment.

The El Cid Beach Resort features a 22,000-sq.ft. free form pool with a diving pool and waterslide. Separate is a kids pool with a mini waterslide. There’s even an adult-only pool, a silent area, with king size lounge beds and a giant Jacuzzi.

Children of ages 4-12 can play at the Kid’s Club from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Organized activities can include snorkeling lessons, Spanish and Mexican cooking classes, kayaking, water polo, bike tours to Puerto Morelos, and Mexican games.

On-site are four restaurants including buffet and a la carte specialties; three bars and one swim-up bar.

A resort highlight is the 13,000-sq.ft. full service spa (treatments at an additional cost).
