Why Barcelona?

The coastal city is today one of the most important departure points for cruise lines of every name and size - from ocean liners to river ships. Some of the biggie American known brands still retain a ship or two in Europe for late autumn voyages in the Mediterranean.

For instance, Norwegian Cruise Line offers a 7-night sailing round-trip from Barcelona aboard the Norwegian Gem on November 2 that visits Valletta, Malta; Naples-Pompeii, Civitavecchia (Rome), and Livorno (Florence/Pisa), Italy and Villefranche, France.

A double occupancy balcony cabin is priced at just $629, or about $90 per day, with ecruises.com. An oceanview cabin is priced at $449!

If you can linger awhile after your arrival to Spain (remember you must start your trip by November 16), take advantage of an outstanding deal on a 12-night Barcelona sailing on November 30 aboard the Norwegian Jade at per person rates from $499 for an interior cabin (that’s just over $40 a day!); $599 oceanview and $899 for a balcony cabin. Splurge on a suite at $999 each.

Ports of call include Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy; Piraeus (Athens), Greece; Izmir, Turkey; Alexandria (Cairo) Egypt and Valletta, Malta.

The second awesome travel deal today is an offer from United Airlines from Atlanta to Sydney, Australia at an inclusive rate of $1,079.24 (the rate is $740.24 inclusive from/to Los Angeles).

This rate is even lower than yesterday’s great offer as United and Qantas compete to gain a bit of press coverage on these never-lower airfares to the land Down Under.

To qualify, depart today, tomorrow or through November 26 or again from May 1-June 8, 2009.

Trips are permitted daily and there is no minimum or maximum stay limits or blackouts.

United serves Sydney via flight connections in Chicago and Los Angeles.

This sale is posted to last through November 3, but the wise budget traveler will act before!
