ANGIE BERLINof Atlanta / in Cambodia
A Buddist monk snaps a photo at Bayon Temple in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
Corinne Adams said: "The fact that the photographer balanced the monk taking the photo in the frame is important, and the colors of the robes."
Susan Todd-Raque said: "It's ironic that most monks don't like being photographed, and here's one photographing the others. The photographer had an eye for the irony; this is quite witty."
Berlin shot this photo using a Kodak V570, a compact digital, dual-lens camera.
THIRD PLACE:
DAVE DUDAR of Atlanta / in Guatemala
This artist was working in the restored colonial center of Antigua, with its deeply colored walls and cobblestones.
Corinne Adams said: "I love the color ... it's a wonderful wall ... we're fools for a textured wall."
Susan Todd-Raque said: "The photo is really well- balanced, with all those beautiful flowing colors. The dark stripe across the bottom and the white on top are very important."
Dudar shot this photo using a Nikon Sure Shot camera.
FOURTH PLACE:
SAM BROWN of Suwanee / in Hawaii
The beauty and mystery of hang-gliding is brought into focus in Kauai.
The judges said the scene "makes you want to experience what they're experiencing" and they loved the curvature of the Earth in the photo.
Brown shot this photo using a Panasonic Lumix camera that he attached to the wing of the hang-glider.
FIFTH PLACE:
DAWN ELLERMAN of Marietta / in New Orleans
