On safari, family strives to commune with naturePublished on: 03/05/06
Doug Kallman and his family — wife Donna and children Maddy and Sam — frequently steer off the beaten path from their home in Roswell:
"My wife and I have been taking our children on naturalist-themed vacations for several years. We started off with trips to national parks; they earned junior ranger badges at Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Arches, Mount Rainier, Shenandoah and the Everglades.

"As they grew older, we became more adventurous. Two years ago, we went to Costa Rica with Serendipity Adventures and went canyoneering, white-water rafting on the Rio Pacuare, horseback riding through the rain forest, climbed a huge fig tree into the canopy and went bird watching on the Rio Frio.
"Last summer we traveled to Tanzania and went on safari in Serengeti, Tarangire and Ngorongoro national parks — amazing. We also visited with locals in the Meru, Iraqw and Masai tribes. Our family has benefited tremendously from these adventures, both learning more about nature and also our place in the world community."
