On trip to Minnesota, family canoes into the wilderness

Published on: 03/05/06

Steve Clarke, Marietta: "Last year, our family, my wife, Jeanette, Robin, 10, Jonathan, 7, and I took a trip to Duluth, Minn., then to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.

We spent four days in Duluth, which turned out to be a wonderful family town. We visited the Lake Superior Railroad Museum, toured a Coast Guard cutter, toured the SS William A. Irvin ore boat and visited the Superior Maritime Museum.

We spent another day traveling up the coast of Lake Superior, visited the many waterfalls and lighthouses. We also spent several hours collecting agates on the beaches.

Then we headed north and spent three days at a lodge in the BWCA. We took a couple of day trips and portaged into the wilderness. It was amazing, only a few other canoeists."
