An elderly Alpharetta woman died early Friday after being injured in a two-car wreck in northeast Cherokee County.
Velma Lewis, 85, was rushed by helicopter to Atlanta Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, said Sgt. Jay Baker, spokesman for the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
A preliminary investigation indicates that Lewis’ car was struck on the driver’s side as it entered the roadway from a parking lot at the intersection of Holbrook Campground and Midway roads, Baker said.
Lewis’ 14-year-old grandson also was injured in the wreck and was in serious but stable condition at Scottish Rite Hospital on Friday afternoon, the spokesman said.
The other driver and her two children, who were also from Alpharetta, did not sustain serious injuries, Baker said.
