Body found in apartment following fire

Atlanta police Monday were investigating the discovery of a body found in an apartment.

The body was discovered in an apartment in the 900 block of Mayson Turner Drive by firefighters sent to the complex to douse a small predawn fire that was intentionally set at the door of the unit, Atlanta fire Capt. Bill May said.

Homicide detectives and investigators with the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s officer were then called to the scene.

“As of right now all we have is a deceased male inside of the location,” Atlanta police Sgt. Lisa Keyes said.

“We do know that the fire was not the cause of death,” Keyes said, adding that the man had been dead for several days.

Keyes said an autopsy would be necessary to determine how the man died.
