Thrashers players Zach Bogosian, Ilya Kovalchuk and Ron Hainsey are expected to practice Thursday and are listed as probable for Friday’s home game against Detroit, the team said Wednesday.
Bogosian was hurt in a knee-on-knee collision with Pittsburgh’s Matt Cooke Tuesday night. Kovalchuk aggravated an upper body injury last week at Edmonton, and Hainsey got a lower body injury Monday against Washington.
Defenseman Boris Valabik’s shoulder, injured Tuesday night, is to be evaluated Thursday, and he is listed as questionable for Friday. Center Jim Slater, who took a blow to the head and the shoulder Saturday at Buffalo, remains out.
The team did not practice Wednesday after playing back-to-back games Monday and Tuesday to end a run of seven games in 12 days. The Thrashers won six of those seven games.
The Thrashers were upset that Cooke got only a two-minute tripping penalty for the hit on Bogosian.
“The referee said if he was injured [Cooke] would have gotten five minutes,” Thrashers coach John Anderson said Tuesday night. “He was injured. He just didn’t lay on the ice.”
