Gwinnett fire investigators say they now know who drove away from a “suspicious” Snellville house fire.

Witnesses reported seeing a man drive away before firefighters arrived at the home in the 4600 block of Beau Point Court shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday.

“We are currently working to establish exactly what role this particular person played leading up to and during the fire,” said Capt. Tommy Rutledge, spokesman for the Gwinnett Fire Department, adding that it’s still unclear if the man lived there.

Rutledge would not release the man’s name.

The blaze destroyed the two-story, wood frame house and caused cosmetic damage to three neighboring houses.

The fire has not officially been called an arson, but Rutledge said the circumstances surrounding it are “suspicious.”

No one was hurt.
