Richt: UGA's Rambo passes medical tests ‘with flying colors'

ATHENS –- Georgia safety Bacarri Rambo, whose scary injury in Saturday night's game brought a hush to Sanford Stadium, has passed all medical tests "with flying colors," UGA coach Mark Richt said this evening.

Rambo lay motionless on the field for about 10 tense minutes before being carted off late in the victory over Auburn. He was taken by ambulance to St. Mary's Hospital, where he remained for testing and observation until being released this  afternoon.

Richt said today that Rambo suffered a concussion  but no other injuries.

"He really has recovered extremely well," Richt said.  "There really are no symptoms from it –- no headaches, no neck pain. Every test he has been through, he has passed with flying colors. Still, he will not play this week for sure."

Richt also said that receiver A.J. Green, who suffered a sprained shoulder joint earlier in the Auburn game, will not play in this week's game against Kentucky.

Richt said it's too soon to know whether Green and/or Rambo might be able to play in the Nov. 28 regular-season finale against Georgia Tech.

By late Sunday afternoon, Rambo was out of the hospital and back in the team's  training room at the Butts-Mehre building on campus --  "laughing and joking like normal," a teammate said.

"I just asked him how he's doing," linebacker Christian Robinson said, "and he told me he's all right."

Robinson said Rambo was getting medical treatment in the training room.

After Saturday night's game, Richt said Bacarri "was unconscious for a little while. When  he came to, he moved every single part of his body."

The collision occurred with Georgia leading 31-24 and Auburn attempting to drive to a tying touchdown in the waning minutes. Auburn quarterback Chris Todd threw over the middle for Mario Fannin, who dropped  the ball upon a  hard hit by Rambo near the goal line.

A hush came over the crowd as Rambo lay motionless on the ground. Play was delayed  as Georgia's medical staff tended to Rambo. Finally, he regained consciousness, moved his arms and legs, and was lifted onto a backboard and carted off the field.

"It was pretty tough," Georgia safety Reshad Jones said later.  "Bacarri is like a brother to us, so when we saw him go down, we just wanted to finish out strong for him."
