Clark Atlanta outgained visiting North Greenville, but couldn’t overcome two lost fumbles, 110 yards in penalties and a Crusaders punt return for a touchdown in a 16-6 loss Saturday.
It was the sixth straight loss after a 3-0 start for the Panthers, who had 343 total yards, compared to North Greenville’s 143. Joshua Dubois kicked two field goal for Clark’s only points.
Aaron Siegler scored on a 58-yard run and Isaiah Johnson returned a punt 52 yards for another score for the Crusaders (2-7). Winston Thompson had 89 yards on 17 carries and Jamari Robinson gained 61 yards on three attempts for Clark. Panthers quarterback Mark Wright completed 14 of 21 passes for 167 yards.
Albany State 30, Morehouse 12: A.J. McKenna threw two touchdown passes and Demetri Johnson scored on touchdown runs of 38 and 18 yards as Albany State downed visiting Morehouse.
McKenna completed 22 of 34 passes for 273 yards and completed touchdown passes to Octavius Staton (66 yards) and Cessel Taylor (19 yards) for the Golden Rams (8-1, 7-1 in the SIAC). Johnson had 91 rushing yards on 14 carries.
Morehouse (6-3, 5-3) trailed 17-0 but cut the lead to 17-12 on two Ian Mullen field goals, one a 51-yarder, and a 13-yard touchdown pass from David Hart to Achille Hendje. Hart had 135 passing yards.
Savannah State 45, Edward Waters 24: Justin Babb had 256 all-purpose yards and scored four touchdowns for Savannah State, which snapped a six-game losing streak by beating winless Edward Waters (0-9) in Savannah. Babb rushed for 167 yards and three touchdowns and caught three passes for 89 yards and a score.
Quarterback Kurvin Curry accounted for 298 yards and three touchdowns rushing and passing for the Tigers (2-6). He passed for 234 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 64 yards and a TD.
Cumberland 14, Shorter 13: Christian Burnett hit Mitch Reynolds on a 16-yard touchdown pass with four seconds left as visiting Cumberland ruined Shorter’s comeback bid in Rome.
Shorter (5-4, 2-2 in the Mid-South Conference) had taken a 13-8 lead with 58 seconds remaining on Ben Williams’ 85-yard TD pass to Jordan Hazard, the Hawks’ only pass completion of the game. But Cumberland (4-4, 2-2) went 55 yards in five plays for the win.
A.J. Cooley (17 carries, 87 yards) scored from the 1 in the second quarter for a 7-0 Shorter lead before Cumberland went up 8-7 on a 1-yard run by Ronez Harris and a two-point conversion.
Shorter committed five turnovers for the game. Antwan Appleton had 91 yards on 10 carries to lead the Hawks.
Huntingdon 51, LaGrange 13: Huntingdon scored 21 points in each the first and third quarters to snap LaGrange’s four-game winning streak in Montgomery.
Alex Baronich rushed for 287 yards and three touchdowns for Huntingdon (7-1), which gained 594 total yards. Quarterback Justin Ridgeway was 11-of-17 for 180 yards and three touchdowns.
Drew Carter completed 22 of 47 passes for 254 yards and a touchdown for LaGrange (5-4). Mario Wallace scored on a 6-yard run and Devin Billings caught a 30-yard TD pass for the Panthers.
Fort Valley State 20, Kentucky State 13: Fort Valley improved to 6-4 with its homecoming win.
