Investigators have interviewed all but one of the people who were with Ben Roethlisberger at a Milledgeville bar the night the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback is accused of assaulting a college student, but they have not talked to Roethlisberger himself, an investigator said Wednesday.

One of Roethlisberger’s attorneys, Don Samuel, said they were cooperating with Milledgeville police and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation but they just have not set a “timetable” for an interview. “We are cooperating in every way. We don’t yet have a schedule. But there is an exchange of information,” Samuel told the AJC.

Tom Davis, the agent in charge of the GBI office conducting the investigation, said there was one more witness to be interviewed, and he hoped that Roethlisberger would be next.

“We have interviewed a majority of the people,” Davis said. “There’s one left to do and we’re making efforts to do that.

“They’re [attorneys] are trying to gather as many facts as they can,” Davis said. “An interview with him would certainly settle a lot of things for us.”

At the same time, Davis said, Roethlisberger’s attorneys had helped agents contact the friends who were bar hopping with the quarterback that night almost two weeks ago.

The middle Georgia college town has been besieged with media attention since it was reported that on March 5 a 20-year-old woman was sexually assaulted. Police said she described Roethlisberger. The Steeler star, who has a home on nearby Lake Oconee, has not been charged.

His lawyers say the 28-year-old Roethlisberger committed no crime.

ESPN.com reported Roethlisberger missed the start of the Steelers' offseason workout program Monday. Samuel said Roethlisberger was not in Georgia

Davis said he hoped the investigation would be completed in two to three weeks and the findings handed to Milledgeville authorities to decide if they would pursue a criminal case.
