Meyer: Officials missed late hit on Tebow
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The University of Florida football staff is asking SEC officials to review what they claim was a missed late hit in the Saturday game against the Georgia Bulldogs.
Florida head coach Urban Meyer says officials missed a late hit on quarterback Tim Tebow by Georgia linebacker Nick Williams.
When asked about a play in which Williams knocked Tebow to the ground after a hand-off, Meyer said the officiating crew should have thrown a flag.
"That should have been a penalty, in my opinion," Meyer told reporters Wednesday during the weekly SEC coaches teleconference. "That's right in front of the referee."
Meyer said he sent footage of that play to SEC officials to review, but declined to say what he was told about the play.
"I don't want to get into trouble," he said.
In the play, Tebow was reportedly blindsided by Williams after handing the ball off to Gator running back Jeff Demps.
ESPN is reporting that SEC officials will make a ruling on the play on Thursday or Friday.
