Louisville president told Pitino to apologize

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A memo from University of Louisville President James Ramsey says he considered a "wide range of options" to deal with the scandal surrounding Rick Pitino before telling the coach to give a public apology.
Pitino issued an apology on Thursday after police documents made public last week showed that the coach acknowledged giving a woman $3,000 after she said she was pregnant and seeking an abortion.
Ramsey's memo was sent to faculty and staff on Thursday. A copy was provided to The Associated Press on Monday.
Ramsey said in the memo that Pitino made "errors in judgement" but "deserves a second chance."
The woman, Karen Cunagin Sypher, was indicted in May on charges of lying to the FBI and attempting to extort up to $10 million from Pitino. She has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Pitino's attorney, Steve Pence, did not return a call seeking comment on Monday.
