Wofford to coach at Central Gwinnett

Central Gwinnett hired away Gainesville offensive coordinator Todd Wofford to be its football coach on Monday night.

It is the first head coaching job for Wofford, 37, who has been an assistant for 13 years, including the last five seasons at Gainesville. He was offensive coordinator for the Red Elephants while also directing the team's recruiting efforts with colleges.

"I'm excited about Central Gwinnett because I see great potential," Wofford said. "Once we get things going in the right direction, I feel like we can build a solid, winning program. We want to be competitive every year in one of the state's top regions."

Central Gwinnett was 5-15 the last two years under Ed Stokes.

Wofford also has college experience, coaching wide receivers at Presbyterian (S.C.) College.

"Todd is one of the brightest up-and-coming assistants in Georgia," Central Gwinnett athletics director Brian DeBerry said. "What he did with Gainesville's offense and getting the players recruited by colleges was amazing. We're looking forward to an exciting period of football for Central Gwinnett."
