MACON — Wesleyan, pursuing its seventh state championship in the past nine years, seized control with a 17-0 first-quarter run and beat Taylor County 66-44 Wednesday in a Class A girls semifinal game at the Macon Coliseum.

The Wolves kept a double-digit lead throughout the game and ended the Lady Vikings’ 13-game winning streak.

Taylor County (29-2) pulled within 10 twice in the second half and trailed 53-42 after Artisha Holston’s basket with 5:43 to play, but Wesleyan closed the game with a 13-2 run during which seven different players scored.

The Lady Wolves (27-4), who averaged 90 points in their first three state tournament games, had 10 different players score, led by Holli Wilkins, who had 11 points in the first half and finished with 15. Erin Hall had 10 and Jordan Frazier added nine for Wesleyan, which earned a spot to play Savannah Christian in the championship game.

Wesleyan won last year in Class A after claiming four AA titles the previous five years. The Lady Wolves also won the A crown in 2002.

Holston scored 19 points for Taylor County.
