South Gwinnett slams Norcross

South Gwinnett 49, Norcross 28: Aaron Wimberly and Trevon Walker combined for more than 300 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Comets to a convincing season-opening victory against the Blue Devils (0-2).
Wimberly gave South Gwinnett a 71-yard touchdown run midway through the first quarter, but Norcross’ Arius Wright returned the ensuing kickoff 87 yards to tie the score 7-7 with 7:34 left in the first quarter. Walker put the Comets ahead to stay when he scored on a 5-yard run with 1:10 left, then Wimberly made it 28-7 with a 7-yard run with 11:07 left in the half.
Norcross quarterback Ronald Rose scored with 3:03 left in the half to make the score 21-14, but Comets quarterback Ken Rollins scored on a 5-yard run with 1:10 left to push the lead back to 14.
Wimberly finished with 227 yards and three scores on 12 carries, and Walker added 104 yards and two scores on 14 attempts.
