Roswell hands Pope heartbreaking loss

Brian Hickman hit Keegan Hughes with a 40-yard touchdown strike with 1:03 to play to give visiting Roswell a 30-27 win over Pope in a Region 6-AAAAA game.
Pope (0-2, 1-2) suffered its second straight heartbreaking loss after scoring twice in the first 1:30 of the final period to take a 27-21 lead. The Greyhounds stopped the Hornets at the Pope 2 with 3:24 to play, but Roswell got the ball back at midfield after Pope took a safety at 1:42.
Roswell (3-0) led 21-7 late in the second period, scoring on an 8-yard yard run by Martez Sumler (152 yards rushing) after he returned the opening kickoff 76 yards, a 31-yard pass from Hickman to Hughes, and a 10-yard pass from J.P. Douglas to Chris Boyd after Sumler carried nine straight times for 62 yards.
Marcorus Garrett had 162 rushing yards for Pope.
