Mays bests Whitewater in OT
For the AJC
Mays 19, Whitewater 13 (OT): Mays quarterback Homer Causey threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Acey Palmer on the last play of regulation to tie the score, and Dmario Turner scored the second of his two touchdowns in overtime as the host Raiders rallied for a win.
The Raiders (3-0) were penalized 15 yards for excessive celebration following Palmer’s touchdown and Mamby Kanu’s 35-yard point-after attempt was blocked by Whitewater’s Blake Jaurigue to send the game into overtime.
Whitewater’s overtime possession fell short when quarterback John-Mark Rhodes fumbled a snap and the ball was recovered by Mays’ Maurice Kimbro.
Turner capped an eight-play, 86-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter to cut Whitewater’s lead to 13-7.
Wildcats junior running back Joshua Clemons ran 14 times for 78 yards in the first half and Dylan Johnson kicked field goals of 32 and 24 yards to propel the Wildcats to a 13-0 lead at intermission.
