Lovett trumps Towers 26-20 in OT

Taylor Mack scored on a 5-yard run in overtime as Lovett (4-0), ranked No. 3 in Class AA, escaped with a 26-20 victory over Towers (1-1) Friday at Avondale Stadium.
Towers, a AAA team, tied the score 20-20 with 5:25 left on a 9-yard pass from Mile Gooch (13-of-22 for 133 yards) to Malcolm Hamilton. Towers went for two, but the pass failed.
Towers had the ball first in overtime. Lovett’s Thomas Patton broke up a pass in the end zone, and teammate Campbell Wilson had a sack. Joey Padgett and Alex Malone also combined for a sack.
Mack rushed for 69 yards on 16 carries and two touchdowns, including the game-winner. Zach Wolfe rushed for 107 yards on eight carries and one touchdown.
