Conrad Nix, who won Class AAAA championships at Northside of Warner Robins in 2006 and 2007, announced his retirement on Tuesday afternoon.

Nix won 300 games in a career that spanned two states and 41 seasons.

"My wife [Patsy] has been retired for a while, and she has been asking me for a while to retire while we both could still do things and had our health,'' Nix was quoted as saying in this article by Jonathan Heeter of the Macon Telegraph.

Among his top players through the years were NFL receiver Chansi Stuckey, Georgia lineman Abry Jones and recent Class AAAA players of the year Marques Ivory and Tijuan Green.

An Alabama native, Nix began his career as a head coach at Lincoln High in Alabama. He had two stints at Northside, 1973-80 and 1994-2009. Nix's son, Patrick, is a former quarterback at Auburn and offensive coordinator at Miami.

Five facts you might not know about Conrad Nix:

- Nix is one of three Georgia head coaches who was active in both 2009 and 1969. The others were Luther Welsh of Thomson and T. McFerrin of Jefferson.

- Nix's final victory was his 300th. Nix won 260 games in Georgia, 40 in Alabama, and finished 300-105.

- Nix was the 10th coach to spend most of his career in Georgia and win 300 games.

- Nix's streak of winning at least 10 games for the past 12 seasons (1998-2009) ranks second in Georgia history to the 13 of Charlton County's Rich McWhorter (1995-2007). Lincoln County's Larry Campbell also had a 12-year streak.

- Nix and longtime coaching rival Robert Davis are Georgia's only two 300-game winners who spent the majority of their careers in the same city, Warner Robins. Nix finished 10-9 against his old friend. Nix was 3-8 against Davis's Warner Robins teams but won seven of the eight after Davis moved to Westside of Macon in 2000. Both coached exactly 24 years at their respective Warner Robins school.
