Griffin hammers Mt. Zion-Jonesboro
For the AJC
Griffin 31, Mount Zion 7: A pair of second-half touchdown passes from senior quarterback Marcus Weller to sophomore Nile Daniel helped turn a close battle between two top Class 4-AAAA teams into a rout. Griffin held a slim 10-7 lead at halftime but the Bears overwhelmed Mount Zion once the third period began.
Special team miscues by the Bulldogs set up senior Buck Hancock’s second touchdown run, which stretched the Griffin lead to 10. Four total touchdowns from Daniel and Hancock — who rushed for 100 yards on 25 carries — were more than enough as the Bears defense suffocated Mount Zion throughout the second half. Led by junior defensive end Xzavier Dickson and senior linebacker Cartavious Woods the Bears kept Mount Zion scoreless throughout the final two-and-a-half quarters.
