When, where: 6 p.m. Friday, Hallford Stadium, Clarkston
Records, rankings: Stephenson is 6-0 overall, 3-0 in Region 2-AAAAA and ranked No. 7; M.L. King is 6-0, 3-0 and No. 8.
Last meeting: Stephenson won 27-7 in 2008.
Three things to watch:
-- Stephenson’s defense, led by DT Doral White, LB Franchot West and DT Michael Thornton, will be tested by M.L. King star running back Mack Brown, who returned from an injury last week.
-- The game was moved to an earlier kickoff and will be broadcast nationally by ESPNU.
-- Although both teams still must play undefeated Union Grove, the winner of this game will be the favorite to win the 2-AAAAA championship.
Newnan at Westlake
When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Westlake High School, College Park
Records, rankings: Newnan is 6-0 overall, 5-0 in Region 4-AAAAA and No. 4; Westlake is 5-1, 5-0 and unranked.
Last meeting: Newnan won 43-0 in 2008.
Three things to watch:
-- Newnan and Westlake are tied for first place in the region, two games ahead of four teams tied for third. The winner almost certainly wins the region title.
-- Newnan has allowed 28 points in six games this season, 15 of which came in a 26-15 victory against LaGrange in the opener.
-- Westlake is averaging 37.8 points per game since its season-opening 15-8 loss to Banneker.
Collins Hill at Peachtree Ridge
When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Lion’s Den, Suwanee
Records, rankings: Collins Hill is 6-0 overall, 4-0 in Region 7-AAAAA and unranked; Peachtree Ridge is 5-1, 4-0 and No. 9.
Last meeting: Peachtree Ridge won 21-0 in 2008.
Three things to watch:
-- Peachtree Ridge’s versatile Brad Roby had touchdowns on a run, a reception and an interception return against Mill Creek last week.
-- Collins Hill’s Charles Perkins leads Gwinnett County in rushing with 1,133 yards in six games. He has scored 12 touchdowns.
-- The winner keeps pace with North Gwinnett for the region lead. Peachtree Ridge plays North Gwinnett on Nov. 6, but Collins Hill does not play the Bulldogs this season.
Parkview at South Gwinnett
When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, South Gwinnett Community Stadium, Snellville
Records, rankings: Parkview is 4-3 overall, 3-2 in Region 8-AAAAA; South Gwinnett is 5-1, 3-1. Neither team is ranked.
Last meeting: Parkview won 34-31 in triple overtime in 2008.
Three things to watch:
-- South Gwinnett has one of the county’s best passing games, led by quarterback Kent Rollins and receiver Jonathan Krause.
-- Parkview quarterback Kalik Barnes, who threw for more than 300 yards against No. 1 Grayson, is sidelined with a broken jaw.
-- Parkview’s loss to Dacula last week puts its playoff chances in jeopardy. The Panthers likely need two wins in their final three games to avoid missing the playoffs for the first time since 1993.
Mays at Banneker
When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Banneker High School, College Park
Records, rankings: Mays is 5-1 overall, 2-1 in Region 5-AAAA Div. B; Banneker is 4-2, 2-1. Neither team is ranked.
Last meeting: Banneker won 18-14 in 2008.
Three things to watch:
-- Mays’ Torey Bowens ran for three touchdowns in the Raiders’ 28-25 victory against Tri-Cities two weeks ago.
-- Special-teams mistakes hurt Banneker in its loss to first-place Villa Rica last week. A fumbled kickoff return and a shanked punt led to 14 of Villa Rica’s points in the 30-19 game.
-- Mays and Banneker are tied for second place in 5-AAAA Div. B. Mays will win the subregion title if it wins its next three games. Banneker would need help because of its loss to Villa Rica.
