Chattahoochee slips by Milton
For the AJC
Chattahoochee 19, Milton 16: The visiting Cougars spotted Milton a 16-0 lead early in the first quarter but rallied with scoring drives in each of the final three quarters, all capped by touchdown runs from quarterback Timmy Byerly.
The Eagles scored all of their points in a little more than 6 minutes, taking the lead on a safety in the opening period and following with back-to-back scoring drives of 70 and 66 yards. Tailback Santee Deck scored on runs of 5 and 7 yards.
Byerly scored on an 18-yard run later in the second quarter to cap an 82-yard march, and the Cougars took over in the second half. Justin Williams, who rushed for 109 of his 137 yards after halftime, set up a 2-yard Byerly scoring run with a 41-yard burst late in the third quarter, and started the next Cougars series with a 34-yard run, leading to Byerly’s 2-yard score.
The Eagles threatened in the final three minutes, but Deck fumbled at the Chattahoochee 5 after a 19-yard run, with the Cougars recovering in the end zone for a touchback.
