The scores came after first-game jitters seemed to affect both offenses during a scoreless first half. Each team moved the ball, but could not score. Chamblee sustained several long drives with the help of Brett Jackson, who carried 18 times for 42 yards and Herndon, who kept the ball 19 times for 39 yards. The Douglass offense never found its rhythm and did not threaten in the second half.
