Buford girls beat Laney in Class AA semis

MACON – Buford’s Lacey Pass and Laney’s Mykala Jones essentially canceled each other out on 3-point shooting, so it was left to their teammates to decide the Class AA semifinal Thursday at the Macon Coliseum.

In a game which the two teams combined to shoot only 10 free throws, Pass hit five 3-pointers and finished with 15 points and teammate Andraya Carter scored a team-high 20 points as defending champ Buford (28-4) beat Laney 62-49 to advance to the state final.
Alysha Rudnik added 12 points for Buford, which finished with eight 3-pointers.
Jones hit six of her team’s nine 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 22 points for Laney (26-4), but the Lady Wildcats fell behind 21-14 in the first period and never found a big run overcome it.
Buford, the No. 2 seed from Region 6-AA, led 32-23 at halftime and 49-36 after three quarters.
