On Monday, Georgia High School Football Daily reported that Wilson had stepped down. The story was picked up by AJC.com. "I would be surprised if Mark would resign and not tell me about it,'' McMahon told the Americus Times-Recorder. "No decisions have been made about any of our coaches.''
McMahon told the newspaper that coaches for fall sports would be evaluated over the next two months.
Two Web sites -- FootballRecruitingExpos.com and GHSFHA.com -- reported the Americus-Sumter job as unofficially vacant prior to GHSF Daily's story this morning.
“I don’t know where they got it,” Wilson told the Americus Times-Recorder. “I talked with Dr. McMahon, and I know the program is being evaluated, and I will take his word. I didn’t know how to react to it.”
