Georgia Tech sophomore guard Iman Shumpert is out three to six weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

Shumpert, who had an unrelated muscle injury in the preseason, hurt his knee when he slipped during a game in Puerto Rico.

Although an MRI last week was inconclusive, Shumpert continued to have discomfort after Wednesday's game against Siena. Surgery on Thursday revealed meniscus damage, in part because of wear and tear.

"I called him on my way home [Wednesday], he was just like ‘Coach, I can't move, I'm not the same player,'" said Coach Paul Hewitt, who expects Shumpert back for the meat of the ACC schedule. "You talk to different people and they say three-and-a-half , four weeks, that's how long it typically takes with the surgery he had. He'll be back for the bulk of the season."

Shumpert was averaging 8.3 points and 4.7 assists per game.
