Tech safety Taylor to sit out year
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Safety Cooper Taylor likely won't play again this season, Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson said Monday.
Because Taylor, a sophomore, played in the season's first three games and no longer qualifies for a redshirt year reserved for those who sit out, Tech plans to petition the NCAA to grant him a medical redshirt, which would give him another year of eligibility.
Taylor experienced a rapid heart beat and dizziness during the Miami game Sept. 17 and a day later was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome, a loss of synchronization between the upper and lower chambers of the heart. The condition can become progressively worse if not corrected.
He underwent surgery at Piedmont Hospital the following week.
Taylor, a 6-foot-4, 208-pound Atlanta native, started the season's first three games and has 16 tackles this season.
