TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Lightning did what the defenses couldn’t Saturday night --  slow down the Georgia Tech and Florida State offenses.

The Seminoles had five first-half possessions -- and scored five touchdowns.

The Yellow Jackets also had five possessions in the first 30 minutes --  scoring four touchdowns before running out of time just before halftime.

And, if you believe in the law of averages, preventing Georgia Tech from scoring another touchdown.

A year after Georgia Tech racked up 288 rushing yards on FSU in a 31-28 victory in Atlanta, the Yellow Jackets had little trouble producing a repeat performance Saturday.

Georgia Tech ran for 296 yards in just three quarters.

Unfortunately for Georgia Tech, not much slowed down FSU either.

This was a game that made defensive coordinators Dave Wommack and Mickey Andrews pull their hair out.

Lightning delayed the game for 78 minutes in the first quarter, but here’s a look back at some of the more eye-popping numbers from Saturday night:

1 – Punts in the first three quarters. Georgia Tech had none, and FSU did not punt until 48 seconds were left on the clock in the third quarter.

2 – First-half touchdown runs by both Jonathan Dwyer and Josh Nesbitt.

4 – First-half touchdown passes by FSU quarterback Christian Ponder, tying his career high for a single game.

21 – First downs, in the first half, by the Seminoles.

63 – Points scored by the two teams in the first half, the highest output in 22 meetings between Georgia Tech and FSU.

69 – Yards Dwyer ran for on his second-quarter touchdown.

73 – Yards on Demaryius Thomas’ third-quarter touchdown reception.

80 – Total points by the teams through three quarters.

196 – Rushing yards by Georgia Tech in the first half alone.

267 – Ponder’s first-half passing yardage, by far the most in any half in his college career.

403 – First-half yards by FSU. It was just the second time in the last 20 years that Georgia Tech had allowed that many in a half. (Duke had 400 yards in the second half on Nov. 15, 1997.)

887 – Yards from scrimmage for both teams through three quarters.
