No. 2 Tech QB to transfer to Georgia Southern
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Georgia Tech's No. 2 quarterback, Jaybo Shaw will transfer to Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Tech officials said Monday afternoon.
Head Coach Paul Johnson signed Shaw's release form, and Shaw will leave following the current semester.
“While I will have the opportunity to compete for a starting role, a part of my decision is academic related," Shaw said in a statement released Monday. "I want to get my college degree in education, which is offered at Georgia Southern.”
Shaw was a true freshmen when he played in seven games in place of Josh Nesbitt during the 2008 season, including a 27-0 drubbing of Duke at home.
He threw for for 321 yards, completing 15 of 24 passes, and rushed 63 times for 200 yards and three touchdowns.
Shaw was the first recruit to commit to Tech after Johnson was hired in December 2007. But in the spring of 2008, before graduating, the Flowery Branch upstart was arrested for drinking while under the age.
He was sidelined early in the 2009 season after breaking a collarbone in summer practice, Tech officials said. And a healthy Nesbitt kept Shaw on the sidelines after healing up.
