Georgia Tech football: Seniors' top moments
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Combined they've played in more than 200 games.
But Saturday's 8 p.m. game against Georgia will be the last at Bobby Dodd Stadium for Georgia Tech's seniors.
Though there are only six seniors on scholarship, which includes five fifth-year players, the class has contributed to 35 wins the past four years. Should they defeat the Bulldogs, followed by Clemson next week in the ACC championship game, and then win the Orange Bowl, they will tie the 1955 class for the second-most wins of any class in Tech history, behind the 1954 class' 40 wins.
And, should they win 13 games, they will set a mark for the most wins in a season in school and ACC history.
As the team prepared this week for the Bulldogs, the seniors provided some of their favorite, and least favorite, memories from playing on Grant Field:
Martin Frierson
Cornerback, Columbia
Played in 37 games*
Favorite memory: "The Thursday night Virginia game where we had the throwback uniforms [2006]. That was my first time experiencing the real excitement of college football. We had a good victory. I think I had my first catch, too."
Biggest disappointment: "Losing the ACC title game. At Bobby Dodd, anytime we lost to UGA or Virginia Tech."
Jason Hill
Defensive line, Atlanta
Played in 15 games
Favorite memory: "Beating Virginia Tech [28-23], No. 4-ranked. The experience, the atmosphere was unbelievable. It was just something I'll never forget.
"I give a lot of credit to Derrick Morgan for the sack. It brought a lot of electricity into the crowd, which fed into us. We knew we had to play. Josh had to make a touchdown. He did what he did."
Biggest disappointment: "I don't have any disappointing moments. I've learned from everything I did around here. Everything has helped me in every way possible as far as going out into the real world. It's a great place to be. A great atmosphere. You win some, you lose some."
Cord Howard
Guard, Phenix City, Ala.
Played in 41 games
Favorite memory: "Definitely when the crowd rushed the field against both Florida State [2008] and Virginia Tech. Those were two great memories for me.
"Virginia Tech was very personal. One you get a win against a tough opponent in the fashion that we did, just definitely something to talk about. Not just the rankings, but bragging rights to be honest."
Biggest disappointment: "Loss to Virginia Tech [27-3] my redshirt sophomore year. On Halloween. That was a really disappointing for me because it was kind of an embarrassing loss."
Brad Sellers
Offensive tackle, Grand Prairie, Texas
Played in 28 games
Favorite memory: "Beating No. 4 VT this past year at homecoming. Having the fans storm the field.
"Usually, it's been a tough matchup. They've gotten us the past couple of years. It was good to get them. It meant a lot for keeping our Coastal Division hopes alive, too."
Biggest disappointment: "I'd have to say in the bowl games in the past four years since I've been here, losing them, especially last year how it went down."
Sedric Griffin
Outside linebacker, Blair, S.C.
Played in 48 games
Favorite memory: "There's so many too choose from.
"Maybe my first time just stepping out on the field, experiencing that D-1 atmosphere. Just a blessing to be out there against Samford in ‘06. I had a tackle, did OK for a little mop-up duty."
Biggest disappointment: "Probably the night against Boston College [24-10 in 2007]. We thought we had a good team that year, would fight for the ACC championship, and he [Matt Ryan] came in and lit us up. We made him an Atlanta Falcon that night."
Dan Voss
Center, Cherry Hill, N.J.
Played in 37 games
Favorite memory: "There's so many good moments we've had, defeating Georgia, going to Notre Dame, but they were away games.
"Some fun home games we've had, Florida State and Miami last year. Those were great home games. First time I'd played Florida State. They have so much tradition.
"When you grow up watching college football at my age, you grow up watching Miami and Florida State. And then you come play college football and those teams in prime time."
Biggest disappointment: "There's been some bad moments. Losing to Notre Dame at home [14-10, 2006] was tough. My best friend from high school was on the Notre Dame team. I saw him before the game. That was the year they were maybe No. 3 preseason. They were really good coming in. We had a really good team and had a good chance at beating them. They had all those NFL guys. That was a tough one for us."
* Game participation records can be spotty. The players might have participated in more games as members of special teams than the ones listed above.
