Ex-Jackets defender Johnson signs with Bengals
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Michael Johnson, Georgia Tech’s most feared defensive player last year, has signed a four-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals.
The 6-7, 260-pound defensive end received a signing bonus of $863,020, and the contract is worth $2.6 million, according to Cincinnati.com.
A third-round pick, Johnson posted 19 sacks, 30.5 tackles for loss and 10 forced fumbles in his Tech career. He didn’t become a regular starter until his senior year, when he made first-team All-ACC.
Listed behind Antwan Odom and Frostee Rucker on the depth chart at right end, Johnson is projected to play in pass-rush situations and also could see time at linebacker, according to Cincinnati.com.
Johnson is the third Yellow Jackets defensive lineman to sign an NFL deal this summer, joining seventh-round picks Vance Walker (Falcons) and Darryl Richard (Patriots).
Bengals training camp starts Friday.
