Georgia State soon will give its fans tangible proof that football really is coming for the Panthers in 2010: season tickets.

Georgia State will begin selling season-ticket packages for its inaugural 2010 football season on Dec. 7.

Tickets will go on sale at 8 a.m. and go until "the phone stops ringing," said Kosha Irby, GSU's senior associate athletics director for external operations.

"Coach [Bill] Curry gets stopped every morning, ‘Coach, when can I buy my tickets?' " Irby said. "We're happy we can finally give an answer."

The Panthers begin play Sept. 2, a Thursday, against Shorter in the first of seven home games at the Georgia Dome. The remaining six games will be played on Saturdays. (Georgia State has added a seventh home game -- against Lamar -- since releasing its schedule in September.)

Georgia State is offering ticket packages ranging in price from $72 to $2,500, with a goal of reaching "10 for ‘10″ or 10,000 season tickets in 2010.

A majority of the lower-level seats range from $72 to $125, an average of $10.29 to $17.86 per game. Premium midfield seats will range from $150-$400 and include a tax-deductible donation to the Panther Athletic Club. The purchase of these tickets includes a chance to buy premium parking.

"We wanted to try to create various pricing categories that allow people to truly jump in for a lower rate," Irby said.

Then there's "The Huddle," a section of 320 midfield seats priced at $2,500 for a pair of tickets, including a donation to the Panther Athletic Club, and parking.

Georgia State students will be admitted for free to sit in a designated student section, or students can upgrade to a reserved seating area for $35 and purchase additional tickets in that area for $72.

"What we call the non-traditional alumni section is geared for students and professional students who have families or students who want to sit with significant others," Irby said. "They're not necessarily going to want to sit in the student section and bring their 8-year-old."

On Dec. 7, fans can buy tickets by calling the Georgia State ticket office at 1-866-GA-STATE (1-866-427-8283) or online at www.GeorgiaStateSports.com.

Fans also can buy tickets in person from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 7 at the Georgia State Sports Arena, where they will be greeted by Curry, cheerleaders, door prizes and refreshments.
