TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Former Alabama quarterback Vince Sutton is awaiting a kidney transplant.

The 44-year-old Sutton was accepted onto a donor's list after former teammates took him to UAB Hospital two weeks ago with failing kidneys and pancreas.

Sutton tells The Birmingham News that he is waiting by the phone daily but says he knows there are a number of people ahead of him on the list.

Sutton is blind in one eye following a stroke and has limited vision in the other. His kidney problem stems from Diabetes.

Sutton was a highly touted recruit out of LaGrange, Ga., when he signed with the Crimson Tide in 1984.

He wound up seeing action in 21 games, passing for 1,102 yards and 10 touchdowns while throwing 13 interceptions.
