Georgia’s football team lost a third player to the NFL this afternoon when junior cornerback Asher Allen said he’ll forego his final year of college eligibility to enter the 2009 draft.

“My family — we got together and decided we thought it would be best for me to leave Georgia and enter the NFL draft,” Allen said. “Probably the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life.”

Allen’s decision follows last week’s announcements by quarterback Matthew Stafford and tailback Knowshon Moreno that they’ll leave school early for the NFL.

Allen, from Tucker, was a two-year starter for the Bulldogs. He played the final four-plus games of the 2008 regular season with a broken bone in his right hand.

Another Georgia player who asked the NFL for a projection of his draft status, safety Reshad Jones, has said he will remain in school.

Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford and tailback Knowshon Moreno announced last week that they will be in the draft.
