Georgia overpowers Kennesaw State

Athens — It was a game of size, and Georgia had the advantage.
The Bulldogs men’s basketball team beat up the Kennesaw State Owls 72-52 on Wednesday afternoon.
Georgia established an early lead and used their bulk to keep it throughout the game. The bigger Bulldogs clogged the lane, slowing Kennesaw State’s speedy guards and pulling in 33 defensive rebounds.
Georgia’s attack was a change from their previous game, when they tied a school record with 17 three-pointers.
Georgia forward Albert Jackson set the tone minutes into the game, dunking over two smaller Kennesaw State players in the paint and on the Owls’ next possession, easily leaping above his opponents to grab a rebound.
Jackson, who had 10 rebounds, blocked three shots in the first half and one in the second.
Size worked on offense, too. Jackson scored 12 points. Another big man, sophomore Jeremy Price, scored 13.
The Bulldogs’ leading scorer, however, was sophomore guard Troy Brewer with 15 points.
Kennesaw State’s Spencer Dixon found his game in the second half, when he scored 14 of his 16 points, including three 3-pointers.
The Owl’s leading scorer, Kelvin McConnell, scored only five points, but he had three of his team’s eight steals.
The Bulldogs were again missing scoring leader Terrance Woodbury, who has been out with a sprained ankle since Dec. 19.
This was the second meeting between the teams. In their first meeting, in the 2006-07 season, Georgia won 75-66.
Georgia plays host to Missouri at 1 p.m. Saturday, and Kennesaw State has a road game against Campbell University at 8 p.m. Monday.
