Georgia freshman tight end making impact
White hopes to get more involved in offense

Athens — Freshman tight end Aron White, who didn’t have a catch in the first seven games, now has one in each in Georgia’s last two, including a TD in the fourth quarter against Florida and a 48-yarder against LSU. But he doesn’t see it as a sign he’s about to take over at the position.
“Hopefully the offensive coordinator and the head coach and my position coach will recognize I’m making plays,” White said. “Of course I’d like have some more touches out there, more catches, be utilized more. But I’m just doing anything I can to help the team.”
Sophomore Bruce Figgins and senior Tripp Chandler got the majority of the snaps against the Gators. All three players are battling shoulder injuries.
“Tripp definitely has the spot as long as he’s healthy. They’re not going to keep him off the field,” White said. “I’m cool with that because he’s a senior and has only three more regular season games and a bowl game.
“There’s nothing but love in the tight end room. Nobody’s jealous.”
Thorpe semifinalst
Georgia cornerback Asher Allen on Wednesday was named one of 13 semifinalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, given to the nation’s top defensive back.
The 5-foot-10, 190-pound Allen, who is from Tucker, Ga., is fourth on the team with 34 tackles and leads the team with seven pass break-ups. He also has 3.5 tackles for loss and one fumble recovery.
Allen is one of four SEC players and three Georgians still vying for the award, given annually to the best defensive back in the nation. Other semifinalists include Tennessee’s Eric Berry of Fairburn, Kentucky’s Trevard Lindley of Hiram and South Carolina’s Emmanuel Cook.
The list will be narrowed to three finalists on Nov. 24.
Etc.
The three teams that have defeated Kentucky have a combined record of 22-4. The Wildcats are bowl eligible for the third consecutive season, the first time they’re won six or more in successive seasons since 1954-56.
