Former University of Georgia football player and long-time Athens businessman Leroy Dukes died Thursday night in Athens, the school announced. He was 68. Dukes lettered for the Bulldogs in 1962-64. His senior season was Vince Dooley’s first as the Georgia coach.

Dukes remained a strong supporter of the Bulldogs after graduating in 1965. He served as president of the Athens Touchdown Club and the UGA Football Lettermens’ Club. Born in Jesup, Dukes served in the Air Force before playing for Georgia.
