UGA women face tough 2008-09 hoops schedule

The Georgia women’s basketball team will face 16 teams that made the postseason last year in the Bulldogs’ schedule for the 2008-09 season.

Georgia, 23-10 last season, will open against Alabama State on Nov. 15 at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens. Non-conference games against include East Tennessee State in Athens on Dec. 1, at Georgia Tech on Dec. 5, at Rutgers on Dec. 8, versus Xavier in Athens on Dec. 30 and at Virginia on Jan. 2.

“This is a schedule that will challenge us from the first game through the last game,” coach Andy Landers said in a statement to the media. “Hopefully, we will grow as we’re challenged in the early portion of the non-conference schedule to the point where we can be successful as we finish non-conference games because those last few certainly get difficult.

Georgia will also host first- and second-round games of the 2009 NCAA Tournament on March 21 and 23 at the Gwinnett Arena.

The Bulldogs advanced to the second round of last year’s NCAA Tournament. The team returns guards Ashley Houts and Angela Puleo and forward Angel Robinson.
