Athens — It's a good thing Georgia carried at least a dozen receivers into camp because, at the rate they're faliing out, they might still have two left for the season opener.
Thursday night was just the fourth practice of the preseason for the Bulldogs, but that was enough time to sideline three wideouts. Redshirt freshman Walter Hill broke his right hand Wednesday and is looking at three to six weeks of recovery. Fellow redshirt freshman Israel Troupe has a hyperextended elbow, wrist and shoulder, all on his right side, and will be out at least for a few days. Then Thursday, junior flanker Michael Moore went out with a pulled hamstring.

Fortunately for the Bulldogs, freshman A.J. Green came back from a groin injury suffered Monday.
"We should be all right because we always like to bring a lot of receivers into camp," coach Mark Richt said. "It never helps missing reps but at least most of those guys have enough experience that they won't be lost when they come back."
Dewberry goes to work
Junior linebacker Darius Dewberry is working two jobs to pay for the damage he inflicted to St. Mary's Hospital property this past weekend. According to Richt, Dewberry started a job with UGA that he works 8 a.m.-noon each day and another one at St. Mary's that he works from 8 p.m. to midnight.
In between "he's with us," Richt said.
Dewberry's angry outburst after learning of a teammate's injuries from a fight resulted in more than $2,000 worth of damage to a parking-lot control arm and four plant-container pots. Richt suspended Dewberry for the first two games and ordered him to get a job to pay for the damages, and Dewberry must do 20 hours of community service. Richt said Dewberry also will work the first two Saturdays of the season while he's suspended, then he can return to the team full time.
"He's anxious to pay off his debt," Richt said. "He was very sincere about that from the start."
Other injuries
Georgia got another scare when sophomore tight end Bruce Figgins went down clutching his right knee in an early passing. But Figgins was able to return to practice a short time later and finish the workout.
"He's probably going to be sore," Richt said.
Freshman defensive end Jeremy Longo also has a broken right hand, but Longo wasn't interested in sharing the details of exactly how he was injured.
"I'm not supposed to talk about it," he said. When pressed Longo assured it was a football-related injury.
Quarterback Joe Cox (sore elbow) will not resume throwing until Monday.
Thermostat lowered
Georgia practiced in the relative cool of the post-thunderstorm night Thursday. Knowing that violent storms were on the way, the Bulldogs postponed Practice No. 4, originally scheduled for 3:20 p.m., until 7:15 p.m.
Between the later start and the front that blew through, the players got a break from the daily 100-degree heat they've been enduring with temperatures in the mid-70s.
"They loved it," Richt said.
Making the grade
Fifty-three Bulldogs earned grade-point averages of 3.0 or better — including 16 with perfect 4.0s — in summer semester, and the football players as a group producing a 3.02 GPA, according to an athletics department news release.
"I'm extremely proud of how our players performed in the classroom," Richt said. "The fact that every scholarship player in our program was enrolled and we earned better than a 3.0 GPA as a team is a very significant achievement."
Etc.
Frank Ros and Rex Robinson, two players from the 1980 national championship team, watched Thursday night's practice.
