Former Georgia swimmer Kara Lynn Joyce was added to the U.S. women's Olympic team.
Joyce, who finished seventh in the 100-meter freestyle at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, will be a 4x100-meter freestyle relay alternate. The addition came after Dara Torres decided to withdraw from the 100-meter freestyle event.

"This is not only a great opportunity for her, but we feel that she's capable of swimming pretty darn fast," Jack Bauerle, who is the head coach for both Georgia and the U.S. women, said in a released statement.
Joyce earned a pair of silver medals in the 4x100-meter free relay (helping set an American record) and 4x100-meter medley relay in Athens, Greece in 2004. She also placed fifth in the 50- and 100-meter free events.
Former Georgia swimmer Sarah Poewe has qualified for the Beijing Games and will represent Germany in the 100- and 200-meter breaststroke races.
