McNabb fought in Saipan and Iwo Jima during World War II before enrolling at OU in 1946.

He started at left guard on the 11-0 1949 Sooner team and was a senior co-captain of OU’s 1950 national championship team.

He later helped coach the OU freshman team, ran a sporting-goods store in Norman then returned to OU for his doctoral degree. He eventually became president of Carl Albert Junior College in Poteau before working as a marketing executive for Tulsa’s Noble Drilling Corp.

He moved to Atlanta about five years ago where his son lives.
