Beach volleyball tour schedules Atlanta return

Sure, Atlanta is landlocked, but why let that small detail stand in the way of a good beach volleyball tournament?
For the fourth year in a row, AVP will bring its professional volleyball tour to Atlantic Station in Midtown May 29-31.
The tournament will include 2008 Olympic gold medalists Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers, as well as Nicole Branagh and Elaine Youngs, one of the top women’s teams.
Olympic gold medalists Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh will be absent from this year’s tour. May-Treanor injured herself on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars.” Walsh is expecting a baby.
Organizers extended the event for a fourth year after the initial three-year deal brought in a total of 40,000 fans. About 14,000 people are expected to attend this year.
And just how much sand does it take to create a beach in the middle of shopping and entertainment mecca?
About 2,000 tons, says spokesman Eric Oberman.
