Edward Waters rallies past Savannah State

KINGSLAND, Ga. (AP) — Kamau Leitner threw a 42-yard touchdown to Johnathan Johnson with 28 seconds left and Edward Waters rallied to beat Savannah State 26-21 on Saturday.

Leitner, who completed 16 of 25 passes, finished with 192 yards passing, three touchdowns and three interceptions for Edward Waters (3-7).

Savannah State (4-6) took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter when Daniel Studdard scored on a 13-yard run. Studdard, who finished with 52 yards rushing, had a 1-yard rushing score in the second to put Savannah State ahead 21-7 in second.

But Edward Waters answered with Leitner’s 21-yard touchdown pass to Horace Scott just before halftime to trim the margin to 21-14 just before halftime.

Edward Waters tied the game at 21-21 when Travis Knight scored on a 57-yard interception return with 11:49 left in the game.

Johnson, who finished with 87 yards receiving, caught the game-winner from Leitner. Johnson had a 13-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter.

Rashard Russell ran for 106 yards for Savannah State.
