It required 486 yards and one overtime period, but Morehouse was able to outlast Kentucky State 58-55 Saturday at B.T. Harvey Stadium and secure its second consecutive winning season.

The Maroon Tigers (6-4) blew a couple of 18-point leads in the second half, but won it with a touchdown in overtime after holding Kentucky State to a field goal. Morehouse clinched it when junior quarterback William Brack scored on a 13-yard keeper.

“We’re getting better and I’m happy with the season,” Morehouse coach Rich Freeman said. “We finished No. 2 in the [Southern Intercollegiate Athletic] conference, which is as high as they’ve finished in 10 years. We went from tenth place to fourth place last year, now to second. There’s only one more place to go.”

It was another outstanding game for Brack, who was given the starting job after Morehouse lost to rival Clark Atlanta. Brack led the Maroon Tigers to three straight wins to close the season and helped them clinch consecutive winning records for the first time since 2001-02.

Brack completed 22 of 43 passes for 335 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for two touchdowns.

“He was our starting quarterback all during the preseason until the last week,” Freeman said. “He had a bad scrimmage and we moved another player ahead of him. I guess that was a mistake.”
