Olympians with Georgia ties who medaled in Beijing

A list of ahletes with local ties who won medals at the 2008 Olympic Games:
• Chris Bosh: The former Georgia Tech standout won a gold medal as a member of the U.S. men’s basketball team.
• Hyleas Fountain: The former Georgia track star won a silver in the women’s heptathlon. She finished third but was moved up to second after the second-place finisher from the Ukraine failed a drug test.
• Dexter Fowler: The Atlanta native and Milton High School product won a bronze medal as a member of the U.S.’s baseball team.
• Vincent Hancock: The 19-year-old from Eatonton, Ga., won the gold medal in men’s skeet shooting.
• Mike Hessman: He spent nine years in the Braves organization and won a bronze medal on the U.S. baseball team.
• Dwight Howard: The former Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy star won a gold medal as a member of the U.S. men’s basketball team.
• Sada Jacobson: Sada, of Dunwoody’s fencing Jacobsons, won a silver medal in women’s individual sabre and a bronze in women’s team sabre.
• Kara Lynn Joyce: The former Georgia swimmer won two silver medals as a member of the women’s 4x100 freestyle and 4x100 medley relay teams.
• DeLisha Milton-Jones: The native of Riceboro, Ga., won a gold medal as a member of the U.S. women’s basketball team.
• Allison Schmitt: The former Georgia swimmer won a bronze medal as a member of the women’s 4x200 freestyle relay team.
• Angelo Taylor: The former Southwest DeKalb and Georgia Tech star was the big winner with two gold medals, winning the men’s 400 meter hurdles and running a leg of the first-place 4x400 relay team.
— Reggie Witherspoon: The Wheeler High School grad won a gold medal after running a leg in the first heat for the men’s 4x400 relay team.
