After losing a WNBA record 17 games to start the season, the Atlanta Dream won for the first time Saturday. Here are other examples of teams that had a hard time winning:

• The Phildelphia 76ers began the 1972-73 season with 15 straight losses and ended it by losing 13 in a row on the road to finishing 9-73, the worst record in NBA history.

• The Tampa Bay Buccaneers entered the NFL in 1976 and did not win a single game going a record 0-14. The team won its first game 12 games into their second season.

• The Washington Capitals finished 8–67–5 in their inaugural season in the NHL. The .131 winning percentage is the worst in NHL history along with a 17-game losing streak that was tied by the 1992–93 San Jose Sharks.

• The Baltimore Orioles set major league's baseball record for worst start by losing their first 21 games in 1988. The longest losing streak in baseball, however, belongs to the Philadelphia Phillies, who lost 23 consecutive games in 1961.

• The Prairie View A&M college football team's futility lasted for nearly a decade. The Division I-AA Panthers didn't win a game from 1989 to 1998 — losing an incredible 80 games in a row.
